Finland's first railroad, from Helsinki to Hämeenlinna, was completed in 1862. The station, which was made of brick, was designed by Carl Albert Edelfelt. It served passengers for 116 years. Nowadays Vantaa City Museum is housing it. The building has significant cultural historical value.

The book creates an overview of the arrival of railroads to Finland, describing the construction of the Tikkurila station and its environs, as well as life at the station.
